Our Research & Results
The Writing to Respond (WTR) methodology has been instrumental in the achievements of Buddinwriters. Within its first two semesters, it garnered traction within its originating department. By the commencement of the third semester, its adoption expanded to other departments. Recognizing its synergy with the Scholastic magazines they subscribed to, the school institutionalized WTR, integrating it with Silent Sustained Reading across all academic disciplines.
After three years of consistent implementation, the evidence of success is undeniable.
Examining the outcomes for students immersed in the WTR process for three years:
- They exhibited a heightened inclination towards informational texts in academic settings and standardized tests.
- Their proficiency in articulating written responses to readings surpassed those unfamiliar with the WTR methodology.
- A notable 80% of them achieved scores at or above the 50th percentile on reading assessments, outstripping their counterparts.
- Students exposed to the WTR approach across three semesters in multiple disciplines demonstrated exceptional results, with 85% achieving at or above the 70th percentile in standardized reading and social studies evaluations.
- An impressive 88% of the graduating cohort, having experienced WTR for three continuous years, met the prerequisites for college-level English courses.
- Lastly, students engaged with the WTR method for three semesters displayed superior confidence and performance on the ACT writing examination compared to those with minimal exposure.
