  • Use structure (steps, patterns, graphic organizers) to present new information
  • Model the desired outcome
  • Provide clear examples Give several opportunities for practice
  • Provide a rubric before or along with assigned work for grading
  • Give students opportunities to share/publish
  • Provide timely feedback. Reward students’ success fairly and consistently
  • Establish a routine for cultivating a habit of reading and responding through writing
